It made me have genuine feelings, and it was a powerful moment. Games are doing all sorts of interesting things these days so I was having this genuine moral dilemma in the moment of whether it was safe. I couldn't make up my mind on whether I was meant to reach out as well and touch them as well. After all the conditioning of not touching ANYTHING (at least not anything pink) during the songs, and then you see this sad not-pink friend crawling to you, begging, reaching out. (It's also a nice double meaning since many of the patterns in this level require you to be physically close to them, adding to danger.)īut what really got me was the section where square friend reverts for a second. Then you see the name of the song "Close to Me" and it kinda hits home what this is going to be, while reinforcing the relationship between these two squares. But it still wasn't a particularly impactful thing. I didn't really care about them until they got corrupted and started having that glitched out expression. Your square friend that gets corrupted, that got to me. I completely lost myself in the game, total flow state and it even had me having genuine feelings about the characters rather than just sympathy for the game character's feelings like in many other games. The real key is feeling the flow of the music and getting into that groove yourself so you can read the danger zones. There aren't too many instances of needing to know the sequences, you're generally given enough time to react. I also feel as far as bullet hells go it's very fair. I love the multiplayer as well, more hectic but more engaging when you have friends who you need to save/can save you. There's maybe 2 songs on the entire soundtrack I don't like, and even then their levels are engaging and interesting.Īlso super fun in party mode with friends, just chilling with what is essentially an interactive visualiser. Each song is memorable and most are real ear worms. Just Shapes And Beats - Boss Concept by JustShapesAndBeats99.
